Full course description

Course Introduction:
Pasture-Based Dairy Systems is comprehensive course taking an individual through an entire season of a spring-calving dairy operation. Participants will learn about grazing operations month to month as the season progresses (example: May-emphasis on breeding.) Pasture management will be a focus throughout; however, the participant will learn about the interactions between forages-cows and people.

Learning Outcomes:
After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
• Understand how forage grows and how to utilize forage for more profit.
• Understand the interaction of the cow with forages and the environment.

Module Topics:
Participants will move through the course month by month similar to how a typical seasonal pasture-based dairy would operate. Within a month's module, participants will learn about pasture management, body condition scoring throughout the year, nutrition, seasonal weather conditions and how to help alleviate stressors to the cattle. There are many, many more topics of interest throughout the year long course.
