Course Overview:
Prepare for the nationally recognized Child Development Associate® (CDA) Credential—the most widely accepted certification in early childhood education. Whether you’re new to the field or looking to advance, this program helps you build essential skills, boost your confidence, and meet job qualifications.
 
This course introduces key principles of how to establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment for young children. Students will learn about how to provide a safe environment and teach children safe practices to prevent and reduce injuries. The course also covers how to promote health, prevent illnesses, and encourage nutrition and wellness. Additionally, students will learn how to use relationships, the physical space, materials, and the daily schedule to create a secure, interesting, and enjoyable environment.
 
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
  • Know how to identify physical and intellectual developmental skills to target for advancement (CDA Functional Area [FA] 4, 5)
  • Apply appropriate methods and techniques to advance physical and intellectual needs (CDA FA 4, 5)
  • Integrate technology to advance learning and encourage creative expression and mathematical reasoning (CDA FA 5)
  • Use art, music, math and social science to support cognitive development (CDA FA 7)
  • Blend cultural factors such as belief systems, language, community expectations and food, that can foster physical and intellectual development (CDA FA 4, 5)
