Course Overview:
Prepare for the nationally recognized Child Development Associate® (CDA) Credential—the most widely accepted certification in early childhood education. Whether you’re new to the field or looking to advance, this program helps you build essential skills, boost your confidence, and meet job qualifications.
 
This course introduces key principles of how to establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment for young children. Students will learn about how to provide a safe environment and teach children safe practices to prevent and reduce injuries. The course also covers how to promote health, prevent illnesses, and encourage nutrition and wellness. Additionally, students will learn how to use relationships, the physical space, materials, and the daily schedule to create a secure, interesting, and enjoyable environment.

 
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
  • Provide a safe environment and teach children safe practices to prevent and reduce injuries. (CDA Functional Area [FA] 1)
  • Provide an environment that promotes health and prevents illness and teaches children about good nutrition and practices that promote wellness. (CDA FA 2)
  • Organize and use relationships, the physical space, materials, daily schedules, and routines to create a secure, interesting, and enjoyable environment that promotes engagement, play, exploration, and learning for children, including children with special needs. (CDA FA 3
