If you are a UM System employee, you do not need to create a new registration account. You will have the option to enroll with your UM System credentials.
Course Overview:
This course is offered to individuals living or working in Missouri's Dent, Washington, Crawford, St. Francois, or Phelps counties. Why? Because these counties ranked worst in the state on all drug overdose mortality rates in 2021, behind only St. Louis City. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are related to many adverse health outcomes including anxiety, depression, drug use, suicide, substance use, and early mortality. This course will bring awareness to individuals who have experienced, or know people who have experienced, ACEs.
This course is asynchronous (you can take the course when you have time, stop, and come back to it). It takes about 2-3 hours to complete. Modules include:
- 1. What are adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)?
- 2. How do ACEs impact health?
- 3. How common are ACEs?
- 4. What can we do to address ACEs?
Finally, the course offers resources and strategies.
Learning Outcomes:
- To identify adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and their components.
- To recognize the significant impact ACEs can have on long-term health and wellness.
- To explain how common ACEs are, particularly in Missouri.
- To recognize the challenges that exist for rural residents and rural Missourians.
- To apply what you learned in this course to your own life.
